Introducing "Grassroots for America",
A Service Bureau to the Grassroots Community

(Philadelphia, PA) Tuesday, March 16, 2004 — Spin-offs of the Howard Dean movement are popping up like mushrooms, but one thing links them all: a need for support services to organize, mobilize and publicize their efforts.

In response, Grassroots for AmericaSM (www.GrassrootsForAmerica.US) has formed as a national service bureau to help progressive, community-based volunteer organizations achieve their strategic objectives. “Simply stated, this is where the grassroots go to make things happen,” said Ralph Miller, executive director of Grassroots for America.

The new team provides resources for progressive organizations including nationally networked personnel, a suite of organizational tool kits, and a variety of communications channels to help volunteer groups swiftly grow roots in their backyards. Grassroots for America (GFA) is a vehicle to help citizens continue the fight started by Howard Dean, “to take back our country”. GFA aims to provide a launching pad for people taking substantive action to change American politics and advocate for the principles on which Dean campaigned.

Current projects include a national newsletter that will be published through the organization Governor Dean is expected to launch tomorrow. GFA is also producing a 15-minute voter education video targeting newly registered voters to persuade them that their individual votes matter. GFA has also agreed to publicize “DeanFest”, a massive gathering of Dean supporters timed to coincide with the Democratic National Convention in July. The group continues to provide publicity services to the “Unity Movement” that managed to get 80 organizations representing nearly 60,000 Dean supporters to adopt principles for staying together after the Governor suspended his campaign last month.

Grassroots for America grew out of the nationwide Dean volunteer support base. Its founders originally teamed in the immediate aftermath of the Iowa caucuses to create large-scale publicity and media projects to demonstrate the solidarity of the Dean volunteer movement. (See a full list of projects at www.GrassrootsForAmerica.US). The team also responded to regional requests for assistance with national networking and mobilization efforts. Grassroots For America will maintain this working model moving forward. GFA operates as a 501(c)4 non-profit organization.
